Two distinguished speakers, Mr James Nicholson and Mr Oliver Watts of FTI Consulting Singapore were the speakers for the evening. The webinar was moderated by Mr Ramesh Bharani Nagaratnam of RBN Chambers LLC.
The webinar on Accounting for Disputes: Getting the Most Out of Financial Statements in An Arbitration was delivered on 28 July 2020; the very first time such a session was offered by SIArb as part of its CPD events. The webinar was attended by about 45 attendees including participants from India, Hong Kong and the UAE.
The webinar gave participants a useful insight into reading, understanding and interpreting financial statements. The webinar also explained the relevancy of financial statements to commercial disputes. To facilitate the comprehension of the accounting and financial concepts discussed, both James and Oliver incorporated scenario-based questions in the presentation for the participants to attempt. The responses to these questions were simply overwhelming. From the queries and responses that the Secretariat has had regarding this webinar, it is expected that this webinar will continue to feature in SIArb’s CPD diary of events.
