Not only are they both countries of less than 10 million people with 4 official languages and a red-and-white national f lag, but they are well known for financial services, neutrality and, most i mportantly for our purposes, as two of the world’s leading centres fo r international arbitration.
In th is webinar, our panel will compare aspects of arbitration law and practice in the two jurisdictions and ask what lessons Singapore and Switzerland can learn from each other to build on their success and how Singapore can main tain its attractiveness for cases governed by civil law systems. Dr. Matthew Secomb is a partner based in White & Case’s Singapore office. His practice focuses on international arbitration, with a particular emphasis on energy and construction disputes. He also acts as arbitrator, having chaired or sa t as sole or co-arbitrator in arbitrations under various rules (ICC, HKIAC, LCIA, SIAC etc). Matthew is qualified as an avocat à la cour at the Paris bar, a solicitor-advocate in England & Wales and a barr ister and solicitor in Victoria. He teaches an annual course on Energy Arbi tration as an Adjunct Associate Professor at NUS Law. Matthew is listed as one of the top 10 Asia-Pacific based lawyers named in Who’s Who Legal : Global Elite Thought Leaders 2020 – Arbitration. |

Ms. Julie Raneda is a partner in Schellenberg Wittmer's inte
rnational arbitration practice in Singapore. She is a Swiss-qualified lawye
r and is registered as a foreign lawyer in Singapore. Julie represents clients in complex international commercial and inv estment arbitration matters. She has been involved as counsel in arbitratio ns seated both in civil and common law jurisdictions. Her main areas of exp ertise include construction and engineering, energy, pharmaceutical/life sc iences, manufacturing and international sales. She is also developing a pra ctice as an arbitrator.
