In this seminar, Siraj Omar SC will discuss how this will affect a rbitration in Singapore and internationally. How will it change the t ypes of disputes we are faced with? About the Speaker
| Mr. Siraj Omar, SC is a Director in the Dispute Resolution department at Drew & Napie
r LLC. He specialises in complex, high-value commercial disputes and
has almost 25 years of active trial and appellate practice in the Singapore
Courts and in international arbitrations. He also sits as an arbitra
tor and as a mediator. He currently serves on the Board of Director s and the Board Executive Committee of the Singapore International Arbitrat ion Centre (SIAC), as Deputy Commissioner of the Government Procurement Adj udication Tribunal, as a civilian panel member on the Military Court of App eal and as a member of the Specialist Mediator Panel (Singapore) of the Sin gapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC). He is also a member of the Practice Advisory Committee of the Singapore Management University Scho ol of Law. Siraj holds Fellowships at the Chartered Institute of Arbi trators (CIArb), the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb) and the Sin gapore Academy of Law. He is also a member of the International Assoc iation of Defence Counsel. He has been appointed by the Chief Justice of Singapore to the Rules Committee and the Working Group of the Professio nal Conduct Council, and also serves on the Accreditation Committee of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education (SILE). He is a past member of the Council of The Law Society of Singapore and has been a member of its I nquiry Panel since 2009. Siraj is recognized in all the leading legal directories, including Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Asia-Pacific Legal 500 and Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific. He was appointed Se nior Counsel in 2019. |
About the Chairperson
Mr. Andrew Pullen is an English-qualified barrister specialising in international arbitration, appearing as counsel and sitting as arbitrator. He has been b ased in Singapore since 2011. Andrew’s recent cases range from constr uction disputes in Australia and Asia, to claims relating to software licen sing and the development of pharmaceuticals, to joint venture disputes. His diverse experience covers energy, finance, mining, automotive, defence, ut ilities, heavy industry, manufacturing, brewing and media, and cases determ ined under a wide variety of governing laws and arbitral rules, in Asia, Eu rope and the US. He frequently works as cocounsel with lawyers from many ju risdictions and has considerable experience of interim measures and jurisdi ction issues in arbitration. |
