SIArb and SCMA are pleased to present the Maritime Arbitrator Accreditati on Programme (MAAP) as a standalone course suitable for current and aspirin g maritime arbitrators who already have a sound understanding of the fundam entals of the law and practice of arbitration.
The MAAP consists of 2 workshops held in-person on 30 October 2023 a nd an online Written Assessment on 31 October 2023.
1. Module 1: The Legal Framework: Litigation & Marit ime Arbitration – 2.5 hours
This module will cover an overview of maritime arbitration and issues sp ecific to maritime arbitration, in particular, a discussion on various ADR solutions (costs and time frames), litigation (why it is less suited to com mercial parties), and arbitration (advantages and disadvantages of arbitrat ion in a maritime context, fundamental features of maritime arbitration and others).
2. Module 2: The SCMA Framework – 2.5 hours
This module will cover the SCMA framework for maritime arb itration and will include the SCMA Model Arbitration Clauses, the Expedited Claims Procedure, the Expedited Arbitral Determination of Collision Claims (SEADOCC), managing arbitration and legal costs, and managing the arbitrat ion procedure.

To complete the MAAP successfully, a c andidate must:
(a) Achieve 100% atte ndance at the lectures; and
(b) Pass the MAAP online Written Assessment.

Mr. And rew Moran KC Resident, The Arbit ration Chambers | Mr. Andrew G Moran KC is an independent, full-time, international commercial arbitrator, with over 30 years’ experience as arbitrator and judge, in the determinat ion of an extremely wide range of commercial and maritime disputes. His pri mary office and base is at The Arbitration Chambers of Singapore in Maxwell Chambers. He was in practice for over 40 years as Counsel. He was appointe d Queen’s Counsel 30 years ago and in that role he led teams of lawye rs in conducting many complex commercial, civil and maritime cases. He is a Master of the Bench of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. Andrew has conducted and holds numerous appoint ments in arbitrations seated in jurisdictions including Singapore, England and Wales, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, India, Pakistan and UAE, as sole arbitrator, presiding arbitrator and party appointed arbitrat or. ASSESSMENT
The MAAP Written Assessment is an open-b ook examination which will be conducted virtually on SIArb’s Online C ourse Portal and/or on its Zoom meeting platform on 31 October 2023 , 10.00am - 12.30pm. Each candidate is required to sit for a nd pass this Written Assessment.
CERTIFICATE GRANTED U PON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
A candidate who successfully completes only MAAP will be awarded the SIArb-SCMA “Cer tificate of Completion of the Maritime Arbitrator Accreditation Programme&r dquo;.
