The Judge and the Arbitrator: Same but Different?
Thank you to everyone who joined us for “The Judge and the Arbitrator: Same but Different?”, jointly organised by the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb) and the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) as part of Singapore Convention Week 2026.
The session brought together perspectives from both sides of the bench and arbitral tribunal for a lively discussion on the similarities and important differences between judges and arbitrators. The conversation explored how courts and tribunals approach case management, including navigating different legal and cultural backgrounds and the ever-present question of due process paranoia in arbitration. It also turned to decision-making — how judges and arbitrators reach and write their decisions, the use of preliminary issues, and whether the pace of justice really differs between litigation and arbitration.
Thank you to our speakers for sharing their experiences and perspectives so candidly, and to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion.
We were delighted to have you with us and hope you enjoyed the session and Singapore Convention Week 2026.
