The Institute organised the second of its two-part webinar series on Energy Disputes on 28 July 2022. Whilst the first webinar back in June 2022 covered conventional oil & gas disputes, this webinar touched on potential disputes that may arise in the renewables sector. Given the global energy transition to renewable energy sources away from fossil fuels and a move toward clean energy technologies, there was understandably much interest amongst our members in the topics covered under this webinar. Substantial growth in renewable capacity amongst states have, in turn, necessitated substantial investment in new renewable energy projects and infrastructure. This naturally carries with it significant commensurate risk of disputes arising in relation to such projects. The webinar was helmed by an international panel of experts and practitioners who covered amongst other things, an overview of renewable energy sources, the current state and expected trends of the market, as well as various policy issues and points of tension that could lead to disputes in the renewables sector. There was also a discussion on some major disputes/claims in Europe, in particular Spain, and key takeaways to be had from decisions in such claims. The webinar concluded successfully following a rather engaging Q&A session.
