Session I: The Arbitration – Conduct, Practice and Procedure
Mr John Savage | Partner | King & Spalding
John Savage is a partner in King & Spalding’s International Arbitration group, and leads the firm’s arbitration practice in Asia. He has represented governments, corporations and high-net-worth individuals in over 120 international arbitrations around the world, including many corporate, construction, energy and investment treaty disputes. In addition to his work as counsel, Mr. Savage has been appointed chairman of the tribunal, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in around 20 international arbitrations. He is a director of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and a member of its Executive Committee. He serves as the expert adviser to the Singapore Government Delegation to the UNCITRAL Working Group on Arbitration. Mr. Savage is the co-editor of “Fouchard, Gaillard, Goldman on International Commercial Arbitration” (Kluwer 1999), and the co-author of “International Arbitration and Mediation: A Practical Guide” (Kluwer 2010). He is the author of many other articles and publications and a frequent speaker on international arbitration. Most recently, Mr. Savage was ranked in the first tier of international arbitration practitioners by both Chambers Asia-Pacific 2012 and Chambers Singapore 2012. Who’s Who Legal, Commercial Arbitration, 2012 recognised him as “one of the finest practitioners in Asia”. He is admitted to practise law in England & Wales and in Paris, France.
Ms Lucy Reed | Partner | Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Lucy Reed, now based in Hong Kong, co-heads the Freshfields global international arbitration group. Lucy is chair of the ITA and a member of the LCIA Court, the new ICC Court Governing Body, and the ICC Commission. She is on, among others, the SIAC and HKIAC arbitrator panels. Lucy has served as arbitrator on the Eritrea-Ethiopia Claims Commission, co-director of the Claims Resolution Tribunal for Dormant Accounts in Switzerland, and US Agent to the Iran-US Claims Tribunal. Lucy is co-author of the Freshfields Guide to Arbitration Clauses in International Contracts and the Guide to ICSID Arbitration (Kluwer).
Session II: The Tribunal – Jurisdiction, Power and Duties
Mr Guy Spooner | Partner | Norton Rose
Guy Spooner is a dispute resolution lawyer based in Singapore. He is a partner and head of the Singapore dispute resolution practice. He specialises in all forms of litigation and arbitration, with particular experience in shipbuilding, energy, international trade, commodity, insurance, infrastructure, transportation and FPSO disputes. Guy has considerable experience in arbitrations in Asia, having practised both in Hong Kong and Singapore for a number of years. He is now based in the Singapore office and is responsible for the arbitration practice in Asia which complements Norton Rose Group’s non-contentious expertise and is part of the wider multi-jurisdictional practice. Guy is qualified in England, Hong Kong and Australia. He is a member of the board of Directors of Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
Mr Eun Young Park | Partner | Kim & Chang
Eun Young Park is co-head of Kim & Chang’s International Litigation and Arbitration Group. He has extensive experience as counsel and arbitrator in international arbitrations under the various arbitration rules including ICC, LCIA, AAA, SIAC, HKIAC, SCC, UNCITRAL, and the KCAB. He is Vice President of Korean Arbitrators Association, Councillor of the LCIA, and member of ICSID Panel of Conciliators. Dr. Park is an adjunct professor of law with SKK University Law School and teaches in various law schools in Korea. He is member of the Korean and New York bars.
Session III: The Courts – Role, Support and Enforcement
Mr Chong Yee Leong | Equity Partner | Rajah & Tann LLP
Yee Leong has been practising for more than 20 years. He is recognised as a leading international arbitration lawyer in the Asia-Pacific region by a leading global ranking publication and is one of seven leading arbitration practitioners in the world nominated in 2011 for the Global Arbitration Review’s award for Advocate of the Year, the only Asian to be short-listed.
Mr Ciccu Mukhopadhaya | Senior Advocate
Mr. Mukhopadhaya is a Senior Advocate practising in the Indian courts and holds an LLM from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA. He is also a Vice President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and member of SIAC, KLRCA etc. Prior to his designation as Senior Advocate, Mr. Mukhopadhaya was associated with Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co., New Delhi office in the capacity of Country Head (Litigation & Dispute Resolution). While his practice covered wide ranging subject matters including constitutional law, he is focused on international arbitration where he has appeared in a large number of matters as counsel under various institutional rules, such as ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SIAC, ad hoc arbitrations and bilateral investment treaty arbitrations. He has been nominated as an arbitrator in both domestic and international arbitrations.
