On 27 October 2016, SIArb hosted its 35th anniversary dinner at Aura, Sky Lounge, National Gallery Singapore, within the hallowed halls of the iconic former City Hall building. The clear views of the famous Padang field and the city skyline provided the perfect backdrop for a delightful evening for the celebration of the fellowship and camaraderie of the arbitration community in Singapore.
Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Finance & Ministry of Law, Ms Indranee Rajah S.C was our Guest of Honour. In her address, Ms Rajah commended the remarkable achievements of the Institute and its growth in international commercial arbitration. Ms Rajah, who is the co-chair of the Committee on the Future Economy’s Legal and Accounting Services Working Group, shared the ongoing efforts of the Committee to transform Singapore into a trusted global centre of exchange for financing, brokering, structuring, and resolving disputes in international commercial transactions. She also spoke of the Government's plans to introduce legislation to provide a legal framework under which third party funding for international arbitration proceedings can take place in Singapore. This reform will support other efforts to enable Singapore to retain its leading position among competitor arbitration centres.
Members and their guests were entertained by 'The Leandra Lane Trio' through the evening. The Trio’s lead singer Leandra Veronica Rasiah Lane, an accomplished skilled artiste of international repute, warmed the audience with her music across genres. Celebrated local saxophonist Boon Chye accompanied her on the saxophone and keyboard.
A big thank you to all who attended the dinner and made it a memorable evening.
