The Singapore Arbitration Journal is a joint initiative by SIArb and the Singapore Academy of Law, as co-publishers, and aims to provide a forum to examine and discuss developments of particular relevance and interest to the Singapore arbitration community.

Since its launch in December 2019, the Singapore Arbitration Journal has been very well received by arbitration practitioners, and is seen as a leading publication contributing to thought leadership on arbitration matters in Singapore.

The success of this SIArb publication is founded on the support provided by a team of Assistant Editors. As the term for the current team of Assistant Editors is coming to an end, Council is keen for members to have an opportunity to contribute to this special project.

We therefore invite expressions of interest from suitably qualified members for the position of Assistant Editors for the arbitration journal.

Assistant Editors will have good legal research, analytical and writing skills, with a strong command of the English language. They must be able to devote the time needed to deal with review, editing and writing responsibilities for a journal published twice yearly.

The appointment as Assistant Editor will be for a 2-year term, and responsibilities will include:

  1. Preparing case digests of reported cases on arbitration;
  2. Identifying suitable  issues/topics relevant to arbitration for purposes of articles; and
  3. Editing/review of submitted articles.

If you wish to be considered, please email the SIArb Secretariat (at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by 1 March 2024 with a copy of your latest CV, and a minimum of 2 samples of your research, analytical and writing skills, (redacted as may be appropriate).

We look forward to hearing from you.

The SIArb Journal Editorial Team

You may recall that members were consulted on an initiative to publish a journal on Singapore arbitration at the 36th Annual General Meeting on 28 September 2017.

Following the positive support received for the concept, Mr. Mohan Pillay and Mr. Yeo Boon Tat were asked to spearhead this special project. Council is pleased to inform members that we are now concluding discussions with a publisher to co-publish the journal, and are also in process of forming the editorial team for the arbitration journal.

Given this is a SIArb publication, Council is keen for members to have an opportunity to contribute to this special project.

We therefore invite expressions of interest from suitably qualified members for the position of Assistant Editors for the arbitration journal.

  2. Providing articles on issues/topics relevant to arbitration; and
  3. Peer review of submitted articles.

If you wish to be considered, please email the SIArb Secretariat (at This email address is being protected from spambots. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank You.

The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) is currently holding a public consultation on the possible revision of the current SCMA Rules and invites its members, arbitrators, users and potential users of SCMA Arbitration and other persons and organisations who may be interested in maritime and trade arbitration, under the SCMA Rules, to provide feedback and/or comments on the possible amendments.

The SCMA wishes to emphasise the importance of the consultation and that these possible amendments are intended to enhance the experience of the users of the SCMA Rules; and will not be adopted (or may well be further revised) if the feedback from consultees indicates that the proposals are inappropriate or that further revision should be considered.

The Consultation Period ends on 31st August 2020.

  1. Background

The maritime arbitration scene is constantly evolving. In order to remain relevant, it is important to review and update the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) Rules from time to time. Arising from extensive feedback received from both local and international SCMA members, as well as users of the current Rules (as well as its previous editions), the SCMA is considering various amendments and proposals to enhance the SCMA Rules. The SCMA is committed to and strives to meet the needs of its members and users with maritime and trade disputes.

  2. Background Presentation & Webinar recording

SCMA had hosted a webinar – "SCMA Rules Revision – Background to Public Consultation", on Wednesday, 17 June 2020. At the webinar, the background to the proposed revisions to the SCMA Rules and rationale for making these revisions were explained. We believe you will find it quite useful to view it.
